While it’s a bit of a surprise to realise the last blog post here was in April, when I consider the volume of work that’s been delivered during that time and the shift to really drive my new venture Holdmine, crack the 40,000 word mark for the book I'm working on, Careering, and re-evaluate my Governance portfolio, it starts to become clear why!

So for now, I thought I would share a couple of timely and relevant stories from some of the amazing organisations I have the privilege of being involved with. Kicking off with some cute animals …

Canterbury A&P Association

When I was appointed to the Board of the Canterbury A&P Association a few years ago, I had no real understanding of the complexity and challenges that would come our way with Covid and the ever-changing compliance environment. I couldn't be more grateful for the lessons and growth along the way, all due to the amazing Board and team at CAPA, and the wider rural community.

Really proud to be associated with the The NZAG Show and can't wait for Cantabrians and the rest of NZ to see what we have coming up – our very own TV episode – showing just how magic the people and sector are. Be sure to watch Sunday 12 December 10.55 am, or on-demand after this. Here’s a preview of what you’ll see - https://youtu.be/g7DvBTaKTxQ - such a good mix of innovation, cuteness, laughter and reality.

Motus Health

There are many reasons why I admire Grant and Tamsin Chittock, the founders of Motus Health – not least is their commitment to high-quality physio where the patient’s needs are the main focus. It sounds easy, and it’s what many companies say, but I can assure you that in every Board meeting, every decision that is made, how it impacts patients is where the focus lies.

I also am greatly impressed with the vision Tamsin and Grant have to grow their network of clinics, and ensure Cantabrians have access to quality healthcare – and this latest venture, Motus Sportshub, is not only beautiful and easy to access, and filled with modern equipment, but has a team of leading Sports physios, podiatrists and Doctors – all who are committed to the same ethos. What a win for Cantabrians having a resource like this.

Ed Tech

I recently had the privilege of getting involved in the Ed Tech space and meeting two female founders who are crafting impressive legacies, doing what they love, and truly making people’s lives better. If you need a little inspiration in your day, then please do take the time to read up on StepsWeb and Banqer – local ladies with talented teams, creating lasting and meaningful change – so impressive!

(If you’ve got school-aged kids, make sure the schools are using these awesome products too)

StepsWeb is a leading online literacy and language program which caters for all learners and notably too has a significantly positive impact for people with dyslexia.

Banqer is a small team of educators, developers, designers, and dreamers who are committed to making a difference. We exist to prepare the next generation for their financial future. This is a great article on Banqer’s Founder Kendall and how she crafted the vision for Banqer.

Summing Up

While 2021 has been a year that feels like it’s both flown by and dragged all at the same time, where yesterday’s events feel like months ago, and January’s could easily have been 2018 occurrences, it’s one that overall I’m really grateful for. The people I’ve met, lessons learned, laughter, growth and impact are all priceless and I’m ready to move into 2022 with more intentionality and purpose as a result. Cheers to that and a safe, sunny, summer!
