Hard to believe it's April already and summer is now behind us. Time is flying by so make sure you're spending time on the important not just the urgent.
Sometimes the amount of effort, time and risk it takes to achieve your dreams and goals is overwhelming and can turn even the most motivated person into a master of procrastination.
When it comes to fitness, the rise in popularity of boot-camps is due to two factors – a short, intense commitment that gets results, and an increased level of accountability.
Here’s my challenge for you – a boot camp for your goals. There’s three steps:
- Pick one of your goals and break it down into smaller steps, aim for about 10. Now break these down into even smaller steps. What are some of the little things you can do to move closer to this goal? Research something? Discuss with a colleague? Brainstorm ideas? Buy a book? What are all the little things you can do?
- Now take the boot camp concept and apply it to just one of your goals for one week. Every day for 7 days, allocate 30-60 minutes each day. From the goal above, do those little things, every day for one week only. That’s all.
- What are the consequences? To make yourself accountable, what’s the ‘punishment’ or reward if you do this for a whole week? Is five out of the seven days okay for you? You decide what you are willing to commit to. Write down the reward or consequence. Put a reminder in your phone or Outlook calendar for one week from now.
This time next week you will have new information and experiences aligned with one of your important goals and will have achieved more than you would have otherwise. You may have even gotten into ‘flow’ or on a roll, and achieved even more.
The objective here is to just start – that way you have a million times more chance of succeeding!
