Aside from family, pets and scorched almonds, rugby was probably my first real love.  I have so many memories as a kid of cheering on the red and black teams on the embankment at Lancaster Park and singing ‘Give it a boot, Robbie’or eating a pie. Then years later walking down from Winnie Bagoes on Lichfield Street, covered in face paint to be there for the dawn of the new era of Super Rugby.

Women’s rugby wasn’t as accessible when I was a teen (it was a hard no from the school I went to) so I took up coaching and refereeing rugby instead (there’s always a way right?). Now in 2022, we have Super Rugby Aupiki and it’s amazing to see many of these world-class athletes play for the Black Ferns, the champion team who, again, won the RWC.

Personally, it is exciting to end 2022 with some good news, I have been appointed as an Independent Director on the Crusaders Board. As someone whose first-ever email address a few decades ago was ‘crusaderchick@hotmail.com’, this chance to again combine business and rugby is one I am very grateful for. Looking forward to playing a small part in supporting, and learning from a great team, business and culture.
