About

Melissa Davies is an Independent Director and business consultant. Focused on developing and refining business models that enable ethical and sustainable growth for people and profit, and are underpinned by the most effective technology and operational strategies.

With 23 years experience in the Industrial, Information Management and Technology sectors across Australia and New Zealand, working in varied strategy, sales, marketing and project management roles, Melissa has a reputation for engaging people and delivering results.

Melissa has worked with a diverse range of organisations from rapidly growing tech startups, local cafes, online retailers, ad agencies and trade based owner/operators, as well as with large world-leading organizations such as BOC Limited (a member of the Linde Group), Wesfarmers Industrial and Safety, SAI Global, Recall Information Management. In each engagement, she has focused on achieving a step-change in performance for the business, and supporting the people involved to adapt and achieve their goals also.

Melissa brings a high impact and personable style, and strength in working with complex businesses and challenges. Drawing on strong operational experience, she is inquisitive, pragmatic and inclusive in approach. Her strongest competencies are facilitating collaboration, getting to the crux of the issues (at a systems-level where possible, not treating symptoms), and making the complex simple.

Her professional experience is enhanced by an MBA from Macquarie Graduate School of Management, and her passion for learning has seen her add to this certification in Executive Coaching through the Institute for Executive Coaching, a certificate in Training and Education and a Green Belt Six Sigma. A point of interest though is her original qualification – Mechanical Engineering Trade Skills through Ara Institute (CPIT back in those days though), which is where her welding skills started to form.

More recently, Melissa has led attraction of foreign direct investment, businesses and talent to NZ's Capital City, become even more immersed in technology startups, co-founding her own (www.bolstur.com) and likes to blend the corporate disciplines with the resource-lean and responsive needs of early stage companies to aid their growth and success.

Complementing her large-scale Corporate experience in Australia, she has recently undertaken large strategic consulting projects for leading New Zealand banks, tourism operators, and conducted strategic sector analysis for key clients. Her rapid learning agility and passion for change sees her seeking new strategic projects in any field, to balance this with her own ventures, and, to also connect back to her mainland industrial and manufacturing roots

Those other ventures include:

  • A (work in progress) book that's designed to help young women enter and navigate the workforce, and to showcase local, relatable, real women and their stories of success. With 'success' being what they decide it is. Have a look - it's called Careering, and if you know of any savvy women that can be featured here, please also let Melissa know.
  • A tonne of quality blogs and free tools on all things sales and marketing, designed for businesses working in the New Zealand context, who need to compete here and/or overseas. Bolstur aims to deliver tools that are useful, affordable and effective and the Sales Competency Cards are worth checking out if you're building revenue or hiring a sales person.
  • And coming in 2022 ... a new data/fintech venture - watch this space, head to the website or follow @Holdmineapp on socials to keep up with development.

On a personal note, Melissa spends the rest of her time developing business ideas, feeding a Google addiction, learning more about the world (trying to change it on occasion), socializing, cheering on the Crusaders and All Blacks, collecting experiences, meditating, being outdoors hiking or on a dirt road chasing people-free zones with epic views.

SilverDelta not only leverages Melissa's experience but draws on the depth of her network too. SilverDelta has a team of professionals, experts and strategic alliances that will be utilised to ensure you always get the best level of advice and support.

We support several not-for-profits and Charities that align with our values and principles through donating resources, time and skills.  If you're in having an impact to improve inclusion and diversity, close the gender and race-based pay gap, addressing social issues such as domestic violence, mental wellness in the youth or rural sectors, or working to empower our rangitahi, and we can help - let us know how!
